The following is a very interesting study performed by the White House and published September 2016, regarding the effects of permitting on construction costs and therefore its impact on affordable housing in the metropolitan areas.
It seems the federal govenrment has identified planning, zoning and permittting laws and regularions as one of the main contributors to construction cost in metropolitan areas.
So how will the federal government go about addresing this matter, when planning, zoning and permittting laws and regularions are reserved to the individual states?
Will the US government start encroaching into the states permit processes? Will the commerce clause facilitate another stretch on the federal goverment’s jurisdiction? Or will federal programs start requiring metrics and specifics, regarding planning, zoning and permittting laws and regularions?
Take a look, and come to your conclusions.
